I've got 900+ hours on Skyrim, 800+ hours on The Long Dark, 400+ hours on Euro Truck Simulator, 290+ hours on Banished.

Instead we get to make games that we envision, and for Tavern Tycoon, I am happy with where it is headed :DĪbout replay value, it would take more than around 40hrs+ to complete the scenario so I am not worried about "replay" value - do people actually stick with one game for more than that? One of the best things about being an independant developer is that there is no pressure to make games that please the mass crowd. They think developers that put that in just to make it take longer are the best. It is a bit premature to finalize that right now - I am working on Level 8 now out of the planned 11 - but definitely something that Tavern Tycoon can turn to.Īlso, this: Uh, yeah, people LOVE excessive grind. Maybe I will put more aspects of grinding for later stages. Regardless, I really appreciate your criticism, and being that it is a constructive one, I have carefully thought twice about what you said. Also, there is some grinding here and there currently anyway - not heavy just here and there. I don't mind grinding, and if done right it can be fun, but that is not the type of gameplay experience I am aiming for. But with that sandbox experience, I probably spent 500+ hours on the original RCT.What I meant is that replay value is there when the game can be enjoyed for more than 40+ hours as it is :D Maybe Sandbox can extend its play time maybe not.Īs for grind, I don't want Tavern Tycoon to be a grind-based game. Without that I don't know if I would have stuck with that game. You could just start from scratch and build your park how you wanted. I remember with Roller Coaster Tycoon, I was so happy to find a "Sandbox" savegame where someone had done all the ride research and used a money cheat to give a ton of money. So yes, people will definitely stick with a game for more than 40 hours if the game is still interesting!ĮDIT to discuss Sandbox Mode: I think it's a necessity for any tycoon game, because as much as we like scenarios and campaigns, sometimes tycoon fans just want to create a little miniature world and watch it work, without worrying too much about specific goals. (I've even got 45 hours on Parkitect and that game is still in Early Access).
